What: A two-week, hands-on course for automotive technology teachers who will convert an existing ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle into a full-fledged BEV (battery electric vehicle).
Who: The course is intended for automotive technology instructors from the Greater Philadelphia area, although if space permits enrollment will be extended to the general public. All participating teachers will receive Act 48 Continuing Education credits.
When: July 30 - August 10, 2007 (class will run from 8:30 to 4:00 M – F)
Where: North Montco Technical Career Center, Lansdale, PA
Why:
Batteries and
electric drive trains will be a part of the automobile of the future
No course like
this has been previously offered on the East Coast
Course is
modeled on and will be taught by Mike Parker, the originator of the
C2EC2T (Commuter Conversion Electric Car Class for
Teachers) which ran very successfully in Encinitas, CA in 2006
BEV's can meet the needs of many typical US commuters while relying
exclusively on domestically-produced electricity, producing no
tailpipe emissions, and reducing carbon emissions which contribute
to global warming.
Carrying out a conversion from start to finish will give teachers
invaluable experience with battery and electric drive technology,
applicable to conversions as well as to Neighborhood Electric
Vehicles, current hybrids and the coming generation of plug-in
hybrids.
